XR Die-Ins
Extinction Rebellion is a global climate advocacy group that has an office based in Boston. While it has general commands, their ones that are specific to Massachusetts include a main goal of stopping new fossil fuel infrastructure throughout the state.
Members often hold a number of protests that the public are able to take part in as well as informational sessions to educate people about climate change. One of their common forms of protest that has low police interaction and family friendly is called a “Die In.”
About 10 participants dressed in raincoats in preparation for the rain gathered in Back Bay station. One person brought a trumpet that blared a somber song as everyone else dramatically dropped to the ground as though they had died. This was in order to dramatize and mimic the active death of the earth due to the rising temperatures.
This video follows XR Boston during one of its recent die-ins that started at Back Bay station. This reporter had the opportunity to speak to a participant to hear what motivates her to get involved.
