Untitled “Soul Patrol” Documentary

In 1971 Boston launched an all-Black tactical police unit that became known as “The Soul Patrol” Put together in order to help combat high crime rates in the neighborhoods of Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan, these men worked together to help solve homicides and build a better relationship with the community. Amidst backlash from the at the time police union, the unit was disbanded early 1972 despite their success. Today, only 5 members of the 34 are still alive, one of whom is my grandfather George Bishop. This documentary explores their story through the lens of both George Bishop and Preston Williams, former members while examining the changing experience of minority officers throughout the years a their relationship to the communities that they serve.
